To see the hills again   ( 1985 )

Thinking of the hills again

sentimental fool, she says

how the land that gave you nothing

holds you though you're free

Canachmuir was beautiful

though winter clawing at our lives

left us land that kept us poor

- yet you remember spring

and hear the childrens' changing voices

crowds without a friend

a word from half the world away

can make you want to see the hills again

You can't forget the leaving days

the shame of giving up your home

losing faith took many years

you were for holding on

and still your exiled eyes have doubts

this air no longer breathes romance

with no desire to learn the steps

you watch the foreign dance

and hear the childrens' changing voices....
